Holistic Treatment Approaches

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing
EMDR is an information-processing therapy that helps clients cope with trauma. During treatment, the patient focuses on a specific thought, image, emotion, or sensation while simultaneously following the therapist’s hand movements or tapping with bilateral stimulation. The distress decreases as your brain is able to process content in your subconscious only accessible during bilateral stimulation. It's like being on a train; an emotion or a thought may come up and the client lets it pass as though they were looking out the window of a moving train. EMDR is successful at lowering distressing physical and emotional responses to triggers for complex traumas and single-incident traumas.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
CBT stresses the role of thinking in how we feel and what we do. It is based on the belief and backed by research that thoughts, rather than people or events, cause our negative feelings. I will assist the client in identifying, testing the reality of, and correcting dysfunctional beliefs underlying his or her thinking. Then helps the client modify those thoughts and the behaviors that flow from them. CBT is a structured collaboration between therapist and client. CBT has been clinically proven to help clients in a relatively short amount of time with a wide range of disorders, including depression and anxiety.

Internal Family Systems Therapy
Internal Family Systems (IFS) is an evidence-based healing method that relies on spiritual presence and God's unconditional love and grace to transform. IFS is a therapeutic method consistent with Jesus' teachings. According to IFS, every aspect of us may heal and rebuild relationships with ourselves, others, and God. Disarming and laying down our burdens can bring about peace and restoration. IFS integrates seamlessly with EMDR and CBT. As a therapy approach, IFS does not identify with a particular region. Christians, including myself, have found that IFS's practical framework creates opportunities for redemption, reconciliation, and renewal. IFS is an effective and transformational trauma treatment.
